Stats and figures to prep fans for the KBL Playoffs

The 2023 Korean Basketball League Playoffs are in full swing. Anyang KGC and Changwon LG Sakers have a first-round bye after respectively finishing first and second during the regular season. Third-place Seoul SK Knights are battling sixth-place Jeonju KCC Egis, while fourth-place Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus are taking on fifth-place Goyang Carrot Jumpers in the other playoff matchup. Here are some stats and figures you need to know about the KBL playoffs.

(3) Seoul SK Knights vs. (6) Jeonju KCC Egis:

-         This is the fifth time SK Knights and KCC Egis face off in the KBL playoffs.

-         The teams last faced each other in the 2018 KBL semifinals, with the Knights taking the series 3-1.

-         Seoul SK Knights have won all four of their previous playoff matchups against Jeonju ECC Egis.

-         KCC head coach, Chun Chang Jin ranks second in playoff wins (44), only behind former Mobis Phoebus head coach Yoo Jae Hak (58).

(4) Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus vs. (5) Goyang Carrot Jumpers:

-         This is the fifth time Mobis Phoebus and Carrot Jumpers face off in the KBL playoffs.

-         The playoff history between the two teams is tied at 2.

-         Hyundai Mobis’ Ham Ji Hoon marks his 13th season playing in the KBL playoffs, joining former players Choo Seung Gyun (Jeonju KCC Egis), Joo Hee Jung (Seoul Samsung Thunder) and Kim Joo Sung (Wonju DB Promy) for most playoff appearances ever by a single player.

-         Ulsan head coach Yang Dong Geun has won the most KBL championships in league history (6); Ham Ji Hoon is tied for second with Choo Seung Gyun (5).

-         Teams winning Game 1 move on to the next round 47 of 50 times (94%)

-         The higher seed moves on to the next round 35 of 50 times (70%)

 

Semifinals Stats:

-         Teams winning Game 1 move on to the next round 78% of the time.

-         The higher seed moves on to the next round 72% of the time.

-         Top seed of the regular season have moved onto the finals 23 of 25 times (92%).

-         The fifth and sixth seeds have never made it to the finals.
