Williams gives reigning KBL Champions a much-needed veteran post presence
Reigning Korean Basketball League (KBL) champs, the Busan KCC Egis has officially signed veteran Leon Williams as a replacement for center Tyler Davis.
Davis, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation due to a nagging knee injury, decided to part ways with KCC on his own terms. According to head coach Chun Chang Jin, Davis said that “his injury was too serious” and said that he would “go back to the U.S. and rehabilitate hard for 6-8 weeks.”
Given Davis’ exit, KCC has turned to Williams, who most recently played for KBL rivals, the Seoul SK Knights from 2021-2024. During his time with SK, Williams helped it win a KBL Championship in 2022.
With the Egis participating in this year’s East Asia Super League (EASL) field, Williams will likely suit up for the team’s season opener against the Macau Black Bears on Nov. 6.
However, the 2024-25 campaign won’t be Williams’ first taste of EASL action. Last year, as a member of the Knights, Williams helped the organization reach the 2023-24 EASL championship game against Japan’s Chiba Jets. SK finished runner-up after losing 72-69.
In March of 2023, Williams also participated in EASL’s Championship Week event, fueling SK to a second-place finish behind KBL rivals — and Williams’ former team — the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters.
Aside from suiting up for Seoul and KCC, Williams has spent considerable time in the KBL with LG (2020-21), Wonju DB Promy (2018-20), Anyang KGC (2014-15) and the Goyang Orion Orions (2012-14).
Williams attended college at Ohio (2004-08) where he was named All-Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-MAC as a senior. Williams went undrafted in the 2008 NBA Draft and began his professional career in Turkey.
