EASL Final Four 2025 Player To Watch: Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin's impact in Asia may not be as loud as Linsanity. But it's just as remarkable.

Jeremy Lin took the NBA by storm in 2012, becoming the league’s biggest story for two unforgettable weeks. The undrafted, overlooked kid from Palo Alto became an overnight sensation, racking up 20-plus point performances, earning extended playing time, and going toe-to-toe with some of the NBA’s best backcourts. His breakout reached its peak when he torched Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers for 38 points at Madison Square Garden.

Off the court, Lin’s impact was even greater. He became a symbol of hope for Asian hoopers worldwide — young players who, for the first time, saw someone who looked like them dominating the biggest basketball stage.

So, 13 years later, where is he now?

Lin’s post-NBA journey hasn’t been widely covered. After his rise with the Knicks, he played for multiple NBA teams, winning a championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019. But injuries cut his NBA career short, leading him to sign with the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association that same year. After a few seasons in China, he took his talents to the P. LEAGUE+, joining the New Taipei Kings in 2023.

And what he’s done with the Kings deserves more attention — especially with what’s at stake in the coming days.

On March 7, Lin and New Taipei will compete in the East Asia Super League 2025 in Macau, facing three of the continent’s top teams for the ultimate title. Winning is nothing new for the 6-foot-3 guard, but this tournament presents a different kind of challenge. Last year, New Taipei reached the Final Four but finished last. This time, they’re determined to claim the championship.

Lin has been outstanding throughout the 2024-25 EASL regular season, averaging 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting an impressive 60.5% from two-point range. His standout performances include a 27-point outburst against the Macau Black Bears on Dec. 11 and a 26-point showing in a statement win over Japan’s Ryukyu Golden Kings on Jan. 8.

In his debut P. LEAGUE+ season, Lin led New Taipei to a strong regular-season finish before guiding them past the top-seeded Taoyuan Pauian Pilots to win the league championship. That was the peak of domestic success.

Now, Lin has his sights set on Asia.

Many assume Lin’s status in Asia has been larger-than-life since Linsanity. But his return to the region isn’t just about playing—it’s about elevating the game itself. By committing to the Asian basketball scene, he’s inspired a new generation of players and fueled the sport’s rapid growth across the continent.

So, how can he take that momentum to the next level? Simple—win the biggest title Asian club basketball has to offer.

It won’t be easy, but Lin has made it clear that’s the goal. Whether he achieves it or not remains to be seen. But don’t look away — because if there’s one thing Lin knows how to do, it’s turning the improbable into reality.

Need proof? Just look at what happened 13 years ago.

Don’t miss one of the world’s biggest basketball icons in action against Japan’s Hiroshima Dragonflies on March 7 at 18:40 CST in Studio City Macau.
